SIDE  PADDLE WHEELER

We have received new instructions to sell this boat and the price has been dramatically reduced to

 $495,000 - yes $495,000.

This magnificent historic boat which cost $2.4m to bring it to its present condition is the fulfilled dream of the owner who has now relocated to Hamilton Island.

The boat is presently located on his station property near Waikerie on the Murray River, which is also for sale.

A full time employee maintains this boat in as new condition. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the luxury usually reserved for the wealthy, at an affordable price.

You must read the following.

Between June 1999 and October 2002, 42,000 hours of labour were put into the rebuilding of part of Australia’s riverboat history. Originally built in 1875 in Melbourne, the 70 tonne side-wheeler has now been rebuilt to beyond its former glory. The following  are excerpts taken from the owner’s public letter of appreciation to all those who made this boat possible:

….all wall frames and fitted internal and external wall lining which included 460 face metres of triple A Marine ply, 810 metres Cyprus Matchboard and 400 m Western Red Cedar Matchboard panelling, 650m Western Red Cedar architrave and 900m Western Red Cedar ceiling scocia.
‘…16 weeks in the shed sanding all timber before clear finishing or oiling’
‘Laid 1,000m of Teak timber decking and used 400 tubes of Sika Flex to seal the decks.’
‘Constructed the helm out of 100 year old Jarrah and Iron Bark with brass inlays. It took 280 hours to complete.’
‘Used 1,450m of Western Red Cedar Matchboard for the ceiling panels. Used 460m Tasmanian Oak flooring to construct the false floors in the hull…’
‘…constructed a Morse control system inside a brass Telegraph..’
‘…two pack cleared the copper sinks, copper walls and ceiling mini aube, Jarrah bench tops and the helm.’
‘….all the recycled timber, 1,126m of Jarrah and 2392m of Oregon.’
‘…hand made copper sinks.’
‘…poxy resined all surfaces of the marine ply then resined 150 face metres of cotton cloth on the roof and walkways.’
‘…laid 450m x 125mm x 65mm recycled Oregon decking secured with 1,200 galvanised 50mm x 10mm coach screws. Rebuilt hull with 580m x 250mm x 65mm spotted gum and secured with 2,200 galvanised hand made bolts.’
‘…1,000 litres of clear finish, oils and paints were used on the boat timbers.’

This superb example would be the best in Australia and is powered by a Perkins 120 hp diesel through a Paragon  marine gearbox to Cat D4 dif.

Accommodation  comprises the Captain’s Stateroom, 2 guest bedrooms, atmosphere-laden saloon and all copper galley with old and new blended to avoid modern day intrusion (except when needed). Huge and private toilet and bathroom. A service room provides for extra storage, refrigeration, ice maker, auto washing machine and tumble dryer.
